The Witch

In Sweden, Easter is the holiday of witches, eggs and candy. This is when the witches fly to ”Blåkulla” on their brooms, for their Black Sabbath with the Devil. (funny note, my workplace is a large blue house on a hill and called just that. ) Children dress up as witches, or Påskgummor and Påskgubbar- they look more like old farmers than scary witches though. They go from house to house with hand painted Easter Cards, or Easter letters, and receive candy in return... kind of like Halloween

Now children, gather round, it is time for a little story...

This is the story of a witch called, Duskrumour. She had made a potion that would grant her beauty, but it failed, so miserably... She turned into a hideous creature, so ugly her coven sisters couldn't look at her without screaming.

“You're so ugly, girl!!“ they all shouted as they ran away in horror. Poor Duskrumour was all alone for days and not even the starving wild animals in the forest dared to approach her- because her vanity had made her turn into a repulsive monstrosity. Eventually her coven managed to see beyond her horrifying exterior and learned to see her inner beauty – so children the moral of the story is: We are all pretty on the inside.
